Your quail, safely on its way
At SIMPLICITY COTURNIX QUAIL HATCHERY, we prioritize the health and quality of your quail. Understand the care we take in shipping our hatching eggs and live Coturnix chicks, and learn about the risks involved, especially during colder seasons or with delayed deliveries. Your peace of mind is our priority.

Shipping options and costs
Shipping hatching eggs is generally stable, but live chick prices can vary significantly by distance due to the required "Priority Mail Express" service. Below is an estimated cost breakdown:

The michigan "winter" factor
Shipping chicks from our Farmington, Michigan location between December and March carries significant risks. If a truck is delayed or sits on a tarmac in Detroit (DTW) at 15°F, standard heat packs simply won't be enough.
During these colder months, many Michigan hatcheries, including us, may suspend live chick shipping and focus solely on hatching eggs, or require customers to opt for "Hold for Pickup" at heated post offices to ensure the well-being of the birds. We will always communicate any seasonal shipping changes to keep your quail safe.

Ensuring safe arrival: hatching eggs
The main challenge with shipped eggs is a detached air cell, often caused by rough handling. While we can't control every step of the postal service, we can control the packaging to mitigate this risk:
- Pointy end down: We use pre-cut foam shippers (like Horizon or Southern Feathers) that individually cradle each egg. These foam blocks are taped shut to prevent any rotation during transit, unlike less secure paper cartons or sawdust.
- "Rest" the eggs: We include a card with every order instructing buyers to "rest" the eggs. They must sit pointy-end down at room temperature for 12–24 hours before incubation. This allows the air cells to re-settle and significantly improves hatch rates.

Ensuring safe arrival: live chicks
Live quail chicks are incredibly delicate, weighing only 6-8 grams, and are prone to hypoglycemia. Their survival depends on quick delivery to ensure they consume their yolk sac energy reserves before they run out. This leads to the 72-hour countdown:
- Immediate shipping: Chicks are shipped immediately after drying (typically 12-18 hours old) to maximize their chances of arriving healthy and strong.
- Understanding usps & day-old chicks: We adhere strictly to USPS Priority Mail Express for live chicks to ensure the fastest possible transit time, crucial for their delicate nature.
Our operational strategy balances risk and ensures the highest quality. While hatching eggs offer lower risk, day-old chicks require strict adherence to shipping protocols to guarantee their safe arrival.
